How is the modern veiw of frankenstein different?

Im writing a paper on Mary Shelly's Frankenstein and how its romantic. Part of the paper is finding out how the old monster frankenstein came to be this modern View. So how, and why, did modern views change Frankensteins image from a man who was a monster with human strength to a green monster with a square head and poles sticking out the sides??
