I need help with this vibrator.?

My boyfriend just bought me a Pipedream waterproof lipstick vibe vibrator, I put the batteries in and it says it's a multispeed vibrator, but it will only go one speed. Did i put the batteries in wrong? What's going on with this thing. Is it just maybe broken? I can't figure it out.
