Nikon D40 vs. D80, which one?

OK, i need your help! I currently own a Nikon D40 with an 18-55mm lens, a 55-200 lens & a Sigma 70-300 mm AF. I recently saw an ad for someone selling a Nikon D80 with an 18-200 mm AF VR lens. I contacted him, and am supposed to be meeting up tomorrow to look at and possibly purchase. After doing some last minute research, i am torn. Besides the mega pixels, i'm not seeing much difference in these cameras. I did read where the D80 has an 11 point af detection, and D40 has only 3. Should i hang on to my money? I thought going to a D80 would be an upgrade, now i'm not so sure. Perhaps i should just invest in a new 18-200mm VR lens and skip the camera body. See! This is why i need help!!! I am so torn! :) I am not a professional photographer, rather, a beginner hobbyist with a pion for perfection when it comes to my photo's. Thank you all in advance. (By the way, the D80 is not quite 2 years old, and has 14,000 shutter actuations. He is asking $1000 for the kit. Includes a flash.)
